Waitoki Engineering is a small family owned company that has specialised in designing and implementing proven technology since 1997. Waitoki Engineering has a well recognised reputation for innovative hydronic engineering and providing heating solutions in unusual situations.

We are able to provide versatile and flexible solutions for your requirements. Architects, owners and builders have the confidence of dealing with the same individuals throughout the project - from initial consultation and quotation to installation and commissioning. Waitoki Engineering offers hydronic heating systems for installation in concrete slabs and radiators. Heat sources include gas, diesel, solid fuels, and heat pump. The heating concept is simple. Water, heated by a boiler, regulated and monitored by the appropriate control equipment, is then circulated through under floor piping embedded in the floor slab or to radiators, thus heating the home evenly and efficiently.

Hydronic Heating

Waitoki Engineering utilises IPEX computer modeling for all system designs ensuring the hydronic heating system pumps the hot water through the radiators efficiently. Besides being the world’s largest manufacturer of thermoplastic pipe and fittings, IPEX is also world leader in under floor heating technology.

A hydronic heating system (wet system) is dependant on hot water to heat a room or home. The process starts off at the boiler, a pump is sending the water through a pipe distribution system in the house for emanation by using radiators, or the floor itself. As the water cools off, it goes back to the boiler to be re-heated. Due to this system, the objects in your household stay warmer for a longer period of time, thus helping to keep warmth in the house. The most recent talks in the industry have stated that heating your home from the floor up rather than vice-versa is much more comfortable and effective.

The hydronic central heating is one of the most efficient and economical alternatives of heating your home. It has become one of the primary choices for house heating in the UK, and also in two thirds of the world. This system is prefered in cooler climates given the fact the energy used to achieve the same level of heat is much lower in a hydronic central system than a ducted heating system, or solely on a heat pump.

Hydronics have started being used extensively in Europe, where the high cost and scarce fuel availability made homeowners look for the most economical and effective heating options, given how cost-efficient they can be. A well-designed and installed hydronic system can be very practical in terms of energy use.

Central heating is the heating of the whole house environment rather then the NZ tradition of heating just living rooms. It provides a warm and inviting heat in every room, that increases comfort, and is a healthier, drier home environment.

Hydronic radiant heating uses hot water distributed through a closed balanced piping network, which has a life expectancy of 400 years, usually embedded in the floor, to warm the floor surface. This effectively turns it into a radiant panel. In this way uniform heat is continually and quietly directed where it is needed most- in the lower region of the floor, warming the occupants from the floor up. Likewise radiators are fed hot water through a closed pipe system and gently radiate warm air into the room, heating the air and occupants without drafts.

This form of heating means room surfaces are warm to touch, and as humidity levels are more easily controlled, the drier rooms are free from damp. The home is also freer from airborne allergens and dust creating a much healthier environment, especially for asthma sufferers.

The heat source can be varied according to the availability of the type. We use wood burners, diesel, solar, heat pumps, pellets and gas and in certain circumstances, electricity. These fuel sources produce the heat output necessary to punch in enough heat to the floor to give a quicker response of heat into the home.

Radiators

Waitoki Engineering are providing the best in contemporary radiators. We can help you choose the perfect solution for your home. We have designs that are suitable for every room; Living rooms, Hallways, Kitchens, Bedrooms, Bathrooms and Conservatories.

Twenty-first century radiators are increasingly inventive in style, colour and form, but it is important not to lose sight of their purpose: to heat your home. We calculate the heat output required within each room as the primary priority.

Location will also have a bearing on your choice. Radiators should be placed in the coldest part of the room, usually below or adjacent to a window and/or on an outside wall - as cold air pushes heat around the room. Radiators are typically between 300-700mm high and 500- 3,000mm in length. As a general rule, the larger the size, the greater the heat output.

It is possible to retrofit radiators which will dramatically alter your comfort and the livability of your beautiful old home. Especially effective for natural gas heating options. Discreet piping system with minimal visual impact. Panel radiator suitable for modern and older style homes.

Villas and older style homes with under floor access, can be retro fitted with radiators quite easily. Turning a cold house into a warm home.
